Eunice Lena Parker Herndon

July 26, 1920 ~ July 13, 2016 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Just 13 days short of her 96thbirthday, Eunice Lena Parker Herndon, went to be at home forevermore with the Lord Jesus Christ, on July 13, 2016.  Eunice was born July 26, 1920, she was the eldest child of Jackson Harvey Parker, Sr. and Orlena Oliver Parker of North Florida.  She was born in Compass Lake, Jackson County, Florida, having lived in several north Florida towns and eventually moving to Lake City where she graduated from Columbia High School with the Class of 1939.  Mrs. Herndon was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church serving in several children's ministries, the Chancel choir and Hand-bell choir, as well as serving as head of the prayer-chain ministry and historian for many years.   Mrs. Herndon was predeceased by her parents; siblings, Jackson H. "Buck" Parker, Jr., Samuel Dewey Parker, & Gloria “Doby” Parker Bass; her husband of 60 years, Jack R. Herndon, Sr. in 2002; daughter, Joann Orlena Herndon, 8 years old in 1954; and one great grandson, Hunter G. Bailey, 21, in 2013. 

She is survived by daughters - Dorothy Herndon Bailey and husband Russell;  Ruth Herndon Moore and husband Gator; son - Jack R. Herndon, Jr. and wife Becky Davis Herndon all of Lake City; 11 grandchildren - Rusty Bailey and wife  Trish, Scott Bailey and wife Emily, Dusty Bailey, and Kevin Bailey and wife Hillary all of Lake City, Joel Moore and wife Katelyn of Tampa, Dwayne Moore, David Moore and wife Angie, Lake City, Daniel Moore and wife Erica of  Georgia, Katie Herndon, Keryn Breeden and husband David, Matt Herndon and wife Kate, Lake City; 20 great grandchildren also survive – Remington and Tara Bailey,  Bethany, Lauren and Josh B. Bailey, Ava and Brielle Bailey,  Aiden, and Brooke Bailey,  Maggie and Sadie Breeden,  Christopher, Jordan and  Annala Moore, Jonah and Moses Moore, Colton and Callen Moore, and  Alexander and Weston Moore.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 973 S. Marion Avenue, Lake City, FL 32025 with Dr. Fritz Fountain and Pastor Dusty Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery on Lake Jeffery Road, Lake City, FL. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 2-3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United  Methodist Church of Lake City Music Ministry.
