John Michael (Jr) Carter

John Michael Carter, Jr., (70) of Lake City, Florida, died on August 16, 2016, in Jacksonville, Florida, with his two daughters by his side. Mr. Carter was born in Lake City, Florida, on March 3, 1946. He was a graduate of Columbia High School and Florida Atlantic University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Mr. Carter later became a CPA then, cultivating his love of the outdoors, founded and operated a thriving game ranch business: Carter's Pasture. After retiring, Mr. Carter enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, taking care of his farm, and practicing yoga.

Mr. Carter was married to the love of his life, Colvin Stevens Carter, for 32 years until her untimely passing in 2009. They had two children Rebecca Carter Nowicki (Paul) and Sara Jane Carter (Travis Lanaux). Mr. Carter is also survived by five grandchildren John Michael Nowicki (13), Mary Halina "Lulu" Nowicki (11), Cecilia Jane Nowicki (9), Elizabeth Camille Nowicki (7), and George Henri Lanaux (8 months), and sisters Yvonne Griffin, Cynthia Amy, Suzanne Trione, and Tamara Keen.

Mr. Carter was predeceased by parents J.M. Carter and Rachel Bryan Carter, and sisters Linda Nell Espenship and Janice Lord.

Visitation will held at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Lake City, Florida on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 5pm until 7pm. The funeral services will be held at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Lake City, Florida on Friday August 19, 2016.
