William Brett, Jr Obituary

William “Willie” Arthur Brett Jr., 71, passed away on Sunday, April 7th, at home surrounded by his family after a brief battle with lung cancer under the care of Community Hospice. He was born in Jacksonville, FL, to William Brett Sr. and Lillie Mae Brett. He spent most of his life in Lake City, Fl. He graduated from Columbia County High School. After High School he became a proud member of the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, and Sharpshooter M-16. After his military service, he worked for Occidental, Delta Farm Center, and

finished his retirement with Columbia County Landscape and Parks Service in 2021. Willie was known for being witty, thoughtful, loving, and generous. He was deeply willing to help others and shared his knowledge of everything, whether it be welding, small engine repair, or even fencing.

Willie will always be remembered for his love of his family and friends, tinkering in his shop, trying to outfish his wife, Mrs. Shirley, gardening, and spending time with the ones he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley Ann Brett; daughter, Casey Ann (Jennifer) Brett of Lake City; Brother, Jessie Brett; Grandchildren, Brayden Brett, Shane Hartopp, Morgan Hartopp, Hannah Giles, Eli Giles, Garrett McElhenney, Caden Mitchell; Great-grandchildren, Barrett Scime, Emilia Scime, Aunna Hartopp, Easton McElhenney, Weston McElhenney

He is preceded in death by daughters Bonnie Sue Webb, Barbara Nikki Brett, and Sister, Cathy Ratliff. A celebration of life will take place on June 9th at his home at 2:00. P.M.
