Wanda Faye Gause
June 10, 1938 ~ January 17, 2024 (age 85) 85 Years Old
Dr. Wanda Gause, a longtime resident of Lake City passed away on January 17, 2024, at HCA Lake City Hospital. Dr. Gause was pre-deceased by her loving husband Earlish M. Gause, her parents, and numerous siblings. Born in Hernando County, Florida on June 10, 1938, to Edmon and Corinne Young, Wanda grew up in a family full of love and support, that equipped her to be fiercely independent and self-reliant.
Wanda and Earl were married on January 27, 1957. They moved to Lake City in 1959, building their life together. Wanda enrolled at the University of Florida and earned multiple degrees that enabled her to pursue a teaching career with the Columbia County School District. She loved teaching English and served a chair of the English department at Columbia High School, prior to her retirement. Following retirement, she spent many hours enjoying reading, gardening, and spending time with family.
Wanda is survived by her brother Dale Young (Barbara), her sisters Virginia Massey (John), and Velda Small, (Scott), sister-in laws Genie Young and Sharon Young, and many nieces and nephews. The family greatly appreciates the friendship and devotion of her friend Juan Rodriguez, whose friendship and care made it possible for her to maintain the independence she so greatly valued. She will be missed by those who loved her and were fortunate enough to share her enjoyment of life.
Interment will be at Lake Lindsay Cemetery on January 25th. No public service will be conducted.
