Vonda Leigh Murray

Vonda Leigh Murray, 60 of Lake City, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 at the HCA Florida North Florida Hospital in Gainesville.  She was born in St. Augustine, Florida and had made Lake City her home since her family moved here in 1972.  Vonda attended Columbia High School and furthered her education at Lake City Community College becoming a Certified Surgical Tech.  She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed going to the river and bowling.  Vonda loved her fur babies and often baby set her mother’s Chihuahua “Tinker”.  She was preceded in death by her father, L.H. Murray; one sister, Sheri Lynn Murray; grandparents, Carlos and Mattie Ryals; and two of her fur babies, Lula Belle and Lucy.

Survivors include her longtime companion of 41 years, Bucky White, Lake City; her mother, Faye Wilkinson (Sherman), Palatka; one brother, Danny Murray (Polly), Lake City; one sister, Lynell Richardson (Amy), Lake City; special friends, Jay Cason and his mother, Rose Cason, both of Lake City; Vonda was like a mother to Sarah and Jaylyn, and ”Memaw” to Sarah’s daughters, Lilith and Azalea and Jaylyn’s son Kyle; numerous nieces and nephews; and her fur baby, “Abby”.  

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mike Stanley officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  A time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
