Vera M. “Ms. Tillie” Mathews, 96 of Lake City, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City. She was born in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Sid and Irene Rosa Cochran. Mrs. Mathews had made Lake City her home since 1975 and attended the Evangel Church of God. She co-owned the “One of a Kind Consignment Shop” in Lake City and worked at the shop till she was 90. Mrs. Mathews was also everyone’s favorite daytime bartender at “Frogs Pub” in Lake City for many years retiring from there at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Claude Dunn, Herman Peavy and Beryl “Sonny” Mathews; four siblings; one son, Larry Peavy; and two grandsons, Levi and Kenneth Peavy.
Survivors include her daughter, Claudean “Toni” Boyle, Lake City; her son, Wayne Peavy, Lake City; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 1, 2021at 3:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Hathaway officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
