Tony Hammons, 66, of Lake City, FL, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, September 16th, 2021. He was born in Knox County, KY on October 7th, 1954 to the late Rev. Elijah Hammons and Vernice Hammons. He served as an active Deacon of Feds Creek Baptist Church of Pike County, KY for many years and later moved to Lake City, FL. He met his beloved wife, Linda and they were active members of First Full Gospel Church of Lake City. He loved serving others and his favorite hobbies were fishing and traveling. If Tony had an opportunity for his final words, it would have been, “God is Good!”. He is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Elijah Hammons.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 9 years, Linda Varnes Hammons of Lake City; his loving mother, Vernice Hammons of Lake City; sister, Linda (Steve) Bethea of Lake City; three loving daughters, Jennifer (Tim) Plumley of Pounding Mill, VA, Christy (John) Tipton of Winston-Salem, NC and Amy (Brian) Carty of Pounding Mill, VA; a loving step-son, Daryl (Carrie) Larson of Lake City; four grandchildren, Dalton and Jenna Plumley of Pounding Mill, VA and Bryson & Zachary Coleman of Winston-Salem, NC; one step-granddaughter, Tiara Carter. Also surviving are two nephews, special friends and a very loving church family.
A funeral service for Tony will be conducted on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the First Full Gospel Church with Rev. Stan Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the First Full Gospel Church.
