Tommy Pitts

Tommy Pitts, 81 of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the Lake City Medical Center.  He was born in McRae, Georgia, the oldest of 10 children, to the late John A. Pitts and Inell Fulford Pitts.  Mr. Pitts lived most of his life in Lake City and was a Christian by faith.  He was the owner and operator of Pitts Trucking and drove trucks for many loggers in North Florida for many years.  He enjoyed being outdoors and doing yardwork.  Mr. Pitts was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Romona Pitts in August of 2021; and one sister, Audrey Pitts.

Survivors include his children, Smokey Schaus (Ginny), Interlachen, Tommy Dale Pitts, Nancy Moates (Curtis), Gary Pitts and Cody Pitts (Misty) all of Lake City; nine siblings, J.E., Raymond, Willene, Bonnie, Lajuan, Laverne, Janice, Annett and Lajoy; 11 grandchildren, Chris Schaus, Brien Schaus, Dillon Pitts (Shanna), Courtney Brown (Derik), Austin “Reed” Pitts, Brittany Steed, Lindsey Moates-Petty (Robert), Heather Pitts, Taylor Beach (Jake), Makayla Bacon (Austin) and Farrah Baldwin; 10 great-grandchildren also survive. 

Funeral services for Mr. Pitts will be conducted on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Minister Douglas Allen officiating.  Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, one hour prior to the service at the church.  A live stream of the funeral will be available by visiting Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Face book.
