Sylvia Miles Thomas, 81, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 16, 2022 at the Haven-Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City following an extended illness. She was born in Lake City on May 17, 1940 to the late Elwood E. Miles and Ouida Blackwelder Miles Nettles. She has made the North Florida area her home most of her life and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a 1958 graduate of Columbia High School where she was a member of the Future Homemakers of America Club and a member of the basketball team. She and her husband, H.L. Thomas, owned and operated New Method Dry Cleaners for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching Bonanza and Gunsmoke; as well as, traveling to her family place in the North Carolina Mountains, cross stitching and scrapbooking. She is preceded in death by her son, Devin H. Thomas.
She is survived by her son, Mark L. Thomas (Kimberly); brothers, Milo David “Bud” Miles (Virginia) and Neil E. Miles (Sheriden). Four grandchildren; Kurt M. Thomas, Christopher M. Thomas (Kalen), Bradley Keil Snider (Erin) and Mason Laruen Thomas along with four great-grandchildren also survive.
A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Thomas will be conducted on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Union County with Bishop Richard “Richie” Miles of the Branford Ward officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., prior to the service at the Oak Grove Chapel.
