Susan Elizabeth Boatright

September 28, 1951 ~ July 1, 2021 (age 69)

Susan Elizabeth Boatright, 69, of Lake City passed away peacefully at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center on July 1, 2021. She was born to the late Alton Boatright, Jr. and Helene Knouse Boatright on Sept. 28, 1951. Susan was raised in Clyattville, GA. She became a Christian at an early age and was a member of Clyattville United Methodist Church. Later she would attend and participate in the annual homecoming service. When visiting her Georgia family she attended services at Martha Memorial Methodist church in Bristol, GA.

Susan was a graduate of Lowndes County High School Class of 1970. After graduation she worked as a department manager at JCPenney in Valdosta, Georgia and later as a restaurant manager at Shoney’s. During this time she happily volunteered as a Troupe Leader for her son's Cub Scout unit. She was so proud of her son Brian and didn’t mind sharing his latest accomplishments to anyone who would listen. That continued to this day. It was also during this time that she developed an interest in cake decorating. Susan mastered the skill of decorating and taught cake decorating classes for several years. She would spend hours creating the perfect cake. This was a challenge that brought her much joy and delighted her family and friends when she invited them to have a piece of cake. When she wasn’t decorating cakes she spent time drawing and painting. Her paintings were so good that her friends at Martha Memorial encouraged her to draw and paint the church. Today a picture of Martha Memorial that Susan drew and painted is hanging in their social hall.

Susan relocated to Lake City in 1995. She settled in and from that time forward considered Lake City Florida her home. Susan never met a stranger, and so it was easy for her to make  friends. These treasured friends became like family to her. She enjoyed many conversations, laughs and swapping books with her friends. She also enjoyed reading, shopping, occasional overnight road trips and playing games.

Susan was predeceased by her parents and her sister Patricia Myer. She is survived by her son Brian Keith Boatright, brother-in-law Bradley Myer and cousin Karen Boatright Monk, numerous aunts, uncles,  cousins and special friends Joyce, Judy and Linda.

Family and friends will gather together at a later date to share memories and celebrate Susan’s life. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made honoring Susan to a charity of your choice.

Special, heartfelt thanks to the kind and caring staff at Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center. They made Susan’s final hours comfortable and peaceful. We are forever grateful.
