Shuffield Spradley, 91, of Lake City, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City after a brief illness. He was born in Lake City on April 11, 1933 to the late Pete Spradley and Nettie Norris Spradley. He was a 1952 graduate of Columbia High School and later attended the Jones Business College in Jacksonville before being drafted in the United States Army, where while serving in the Army, he volunteered for the Judge Advocate Group (JAG). Once he returned from his service, he owned and operated the Early Bird Bait and Tackle Shop in Lake City for over 37 years. He was a faithful member of the North Lake City Church of God, till ill health prevented him from attending in person, then he and his wife faithfully watched the Jimmy Swaggert Ministries every Sunday. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, especially going salt water fishing at Horseshoe, and hunting. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar “E.R.” Spradley and an infant baby brother; one sister-in-law, McKatherine “Katherine” Spradley; brother-in-law, Ronald Riley; and his grandson, Jonathan “J.J.” Spradley.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty North Spradley of Lake City; children, David Spradley (Joyce) of Lake City, Randy Spradley (Cheryl) of St. Augustine, Lisa Richardson (Tony) of Lake City and Mike Spradley (Natasha) of Lake City; siblings, Shep Spradley (Kathy) of Lake City, Shelton Spradley (Joan) of Lake City, Joe Spradley (Tasha) of Horseshoe, Debbie Hughes (Ronnie) of Lake City, Shirley Riley of Lake City and Ralph Spradley (Sandy) of Lake City. Nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren with one on the way also survive.
A funeral service for Mr. Spradley will be conducted on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Randy Ogburn officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Thursday evening, April 18, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
