Rodney Thomas, 73 of Jennings, Florida and former longtime resident of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was born and raised in Lake City to the late Jack and Mildred Young Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1966 and was a member of the Watertown Congregational Methodist Church in Lake City. He worked many years in the Timber Industry and also for the Florida Department of Corrections. Mr. Thomas enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, being outdoors working with his tractor and loved classic cars having recently purchased a 1964 GTO. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Diane Brinkley; one daughter, Renee Thomas; and one grandson, Brandon “Boomer”.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sarah Thomas, Lake City; two sons, Levi Thomas (Julia) and Rowdy Thomas both of Lake City; his father and mother-in-law, Fred and Deloris Melton, Ft. White; eight grandchildren, Hinata Thomas, Isabella Thomas, Levi Thomas Jr., Piper Thomas, Colton Thomas, Blaylon Thomas, Cameron Teems (Amanda Sharpe) and Morgan Stalvey; great-grandchildren, Sienna Teems and Callum Teems due to join the family at any time; two sisters-in-law, Martha Ogburn (Randy), White Springs and Sennie Peeler, White Springs; three brothers-in-law, David Melton (Tammy), Ft. White Fred Melton, Jr., Lake City and Larry Davis, Lake City; and a special niece, Amanda Coglon (Paul), Lake City.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas will be conducted on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 12:00 Noon in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Randy Ogburn officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in the Deep Creek Community of Columbia County. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.
