Robert David Dortch, 83, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, September 16, 2022 at the Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center with his family by his side. He was born and raised in Lake City and was a 1956 graduate of Columbia High School. After High School he served his country in the United States Army. Once he finished his time in the service, he returned home and worked as a Fire Fighter & Paramedic, then worked as a Grocery Store Manager for over 40 years and then worked for Peeler’s Medical Transport for a little over 10 years. He was a faithful member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Lake City; and in his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, music and singing, playing golf, watching fast pitch softball and he loved watching FSU Football. He is preceded in death by his grandson, John Robert Dortch; his parents, Rev. John R. Dortch and Elsie Mae Tyre Dortch; and his siblings, Leonard Judson Dortch, Leon William “Bill” Dortch, Thomas Gerald Dortch, Mary Dortch Walker, Jessie Mae Lee and Jewell Frances Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of over 42 years, Velma Dortch of Lake City; sons, Tim Dortch (Lisa) and Mike Stalvey (Abby) both of Lake City; grandchildren, Amanda Dortch Bryant (Shawn), Madison Stalvey Deas (Tylor) and Maney Stalvey (Brooklyn Altman) all of Lake City; and great-grandchildren, Tucker Dortch, Mayleigh Dortch, Caroliena Bryant, Max Bryant and Slade Deas all of Lake City. Special niece, Debe Stephenson along with several other nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service for Mr. Dortch will be conducted on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church with Pastor Bo Bush and Robb Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Monday evening, September 19, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
