Rev. Ulis Phillip Taylor, Sr., 83, Pastor of New Beginning Church, passed away on Saturday morning, December 12, 2020 after a brief illness. He was born in Sanderson, Florida on October 10, 1937 to the late Ernest S. Taylor, Sr. and Nona Mae Crews Taylor. He has made Lake City his home for the past 54 years, and was a United States Air Force Veteran. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, singing and preaching the gospel. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Luellen H. Taylor and his siblings, Ernest Taylor, Jr., Roger Taylor and Marcel Conwell.
He is survived by his wife of seven years, Ida Mae Taylor of Lake City; sons, Mark A. Taylor (Brenda) of Texas, Ulis P. Taylor, Jr. of Lake City, Joel Taylor (Elizabeth) of Colorado and Jonathan Taylor (Edith) of Lake City; step-daughters, Sandy Blanton (Jimmy) of Lake City and Angel Stewart (Vern) of Alachua; siblings, Jimmy Taylor (Micki) of Middleburg, Shirley Sikes of Jacksonville, Daisy Brown of Jacksonville and Gloria Jarrell (James) of Jacksonville. Ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Rev. Taylor will be conducted on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. in the New Beginning Church (off County Road 242) with Rev. Stan Ellis, Rev. John Terry and Mrs. Karen Terry officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, December 16, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. CDC guidelines regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic are encouraged to be followed for the visitation and funeral services.
