Retired Captain, James Howard “Mac” McClellan Jr., 86 of Worthington Springs, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was born in Monticello, Florida, the youngest of three children, to the late James Howard McClellan, Sr. and Minnie Lou McDowell McClellan. Mr. McClellan earned a football scholarship to Florida State University in 1953 and served our country for 2 years in the United States Army. He retired as a Captain in 1991 from the Florida Highway Patrol with 35 years of service. Mr. McClellan was stationed in numerous places in Florida including the Florida Keys, Inglis, Ocala, Gainesville and Lake City. He was a Master Mason and member of the Lake City Lodge #27 and was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City. Mr. McClellan enjoyed fishing and following Florida Gator Sports. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marjorie Drawdy; and three nephews, Howard Drawdy, Scott Drawdy and Waring Drawdy.
Survivors include his wife, Patty McClellan, Worthington Springs; his son, James H. McClellan, III (Carol), Trenton; his daughter, Angie McClellan, Wellborn; one sister, Peggy Moore, Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Joel McClellan (Precious), Steinhatchee and Caroline McClellan, Trenton; and one great-grandson, Jay McClellan, Steinhatchee.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Lake City with Rev. Robert Bass officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 at the funeral home.
