Pete M. Spurlock, Sr., 76, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday evening, February 4, 2021 at the Solaris Healthcare in Lake City after a sudden illness. He was born in Tallahassee, FL, on August 8, 1944 to the late Louie Frank Spurlock and Lucille Wallace Spurlock. He has made Lake City his home since the mid 1970’s, moving here from Tallahassee. He worked for Occidental/PCS for over 30 years as a Rod Mill Operator and was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lake City. He was known for always taking his bible with him to work and could always be found reading and studying the bible. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and going to church, where he taught Sunday school for the teenagers for a couple of years. Pete and his wife, Mrs. Joyce always had an open home, full of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Frank Spurlock and Vivian Spurlock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce N. Spurlock of Lake City; sons, Pete Spurlock, Jr. (Melissa) of Lake City and Mike Spurlock (Kim) of Glen St. Mary; daughters, Michelle McCoy (Leon) of Hernando and Christy Weaver (Patrick) of Lake City; brother, James Spurlock of Carey, NC. Twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild along with numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Spurlock will be conducted on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Norman and Bro. Leon McCoy officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 P.M. (one hour prior to the service) at the church.
