Paul A Spohn

Paul Alois Spohn died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 10, 2022, at his home in Lake City, Florida. He was 88.

He is survived by his daughter, Claudia (Larry) Witt; granddaughters Monica (Jon) Rogers and Ashleigh (Krys) Jennings; nieces and nephews Linda (Girvin) Skinner, Susie (Jim) McManus, Carla (Greg) Frishman, Henry (Patricia) Williams, Don (Susan) Willams, and Hans (Dyna) Göllert; extended family members; dear personal friend Ann Pickett; and cherished cat Schatzi. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 59 years Erika Spohn.

Paul was born on July 29, 1934, in Feldafing, Germany. He married Erika on May 6, 1961, and the pair emigrated to the United States in February of 1962 to help Erika’s sister Betty raise her children after the loss of her husband. Paul and Erika welcomed their only daughter Claudia on February 8, 1964. Paul worked as an aircraft mechanic and project manager at Aero Corporation from 1962 to 1989. From 1990, he worked for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office as a deputy and bailiff until he semi-retired in 2005, continuing to work as a reserve deputy until his full retirement in 2007 as a corporal. Paul was an avid reader and a lifelong learner who also enjoyed his hobbies of golf and working on model trains. He loved traveling the world with Erika, including a yearly trip to Germany to visit with family and friends. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and companion to so many.

A celebration of life will follow cremation and is scheduled for September 16, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. All are welcome to attend, and the family ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Haven Hospice 6037 Us Hwy 90 Lake City, FL 32055.
