Ollie Olevia Waites, 92, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 1, 2022 with her family by her side after an extended illness. She was born in Springfield, Arkansas on May 17, 1930 to the late Ollie M. Williams and Ersia O. Morrow Williams. She has made Lake City her home since 1980, moving here from Starke, Florida and worked in the banking industry where she was affectionately known as “Mrs. Ollie” among her customers. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and volunteered with the Christian Service Center for a short while. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Waites and her six siblings.
She is survived by her son, Martin “Marty” Waites (Lisa) of Lake City and her daughters, Dianna Peeler (Charles) of Lake City and Vickie Anders (Norman) of Live Oak. Grandchildren, Keith Anders, Amanda K. Hall, Chuck Peeler, Douglas Peeler, Leah Jolley, David Waites and Christopher Waites along with fourteen great-grandchildren also survive.
A funeral service for Mrs. Waites will be conducted on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Kerry officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, June 3, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
