Mildred Wheeler Brooker, 83 of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Orange Park. She was born in Fargo, Georgia the youngest and last surviving of 13 children to the late Berry Wheeler and Minnie Melton Wheeler. Mrs. Brooker was raised in Lake City and had lived many years in Jacksonville, Lake City and Green Cove Springs. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Athens Baptist Church while she lived in Lake City. Mrs. Brooker enjoyed sewing, doing crafts and working and growing flowers in her yard. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Ira Brooker and her daughter, Regina Raulerson.
Survivors include her two sons, Richard C. Brooker (Sherry), Green Cove Springs and Robert A. Brooker, Leicester, NC; one brother in law, Hoke Brooker, Bedford, TX; three grandchildren, Becky Armstead (Jason), Naples, FL Benjamin Brooker and Abbey Brooker both of Jacksonville; one great-grandchild, Alistair Armstead; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Alan Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 10-11:00 AM In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund at 8130 Baymeadows Way West, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
