Michael Henry Huelskamp Jr., 43, of Temple, Texas, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021, in the U.S. Virgin Islands doing something he loved: diving. He lived his life to the fullest.
Michael was born on March 10, 1978, in Dothan, Ala. His family moved to Palm Beach County, Florida, and then to Lake City, Florida, where he attended Columbia County schools from 3rd through 12th grades. He played nine instruments and loved to dance the Texas two-step.
He also loved to travel. His work in the petroleum industry, troubleshooting oil rigs and more, took him around the globe, though he was on vacation in St. Croix at the time of the scuba diving accident that hastened his homecoming. A born-again follower of Christ, Michael was also a former youth minister and minister of music.
Michael was a veteran of the United States Army, where he was a member of the Logistics Corps. An expert welder, he received a bachelor's degree in manufacturing from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, preceded by an associate's degree in welding engineering technology from Del Mar College. He also possessed numerous certificates that testified to his expertise in that field. Michael was also a lifetime member of the NRA, a true Patriot, and loved to cook for anyone.
Michael is survived by a son, Noah Michael Huelskamp, 13, Temple Texas; parents, Michael Henry Huelskamp Sr. and D. Louise (Wezzie) Huelskamp, Lake City, Fla.; a brother, Billy Jack (Elizabeth) Huelskamp, Lake City, Fla.; a sister, Bonnie L.R. Huelskamp (Joey) Denslow, Live Oak, Fla.; nieces Emma Louise and Lillian Grace Denslow, Live Oak, Fla.; and a great many friends in Lake City, Fla., and Waco and Temple, Texas, where he lived and worked for the last 20 years.
Services will be held at a later date in Texas.
