Meredith Allan Moss, 82 of Fort White, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at his home. Mr. Moss was born in Benton, Illinois to the late Garland Lewis Moss and Evelyn Smothers Moss. He served our country in the United States Navy for 21 years retiring in 1979. Mr. Moss served as a Navy Corpsman on Nuclear Subs and retired as a CWO2 Physician’s Assistant. During his time of service, Mr. Moss and his family were stationed in numerous places, and following retirement, they relocated to the Lake City area in 1981. Mr. Moss earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska and continued his work as a Physician’s Assistant with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City for 20 years, retiring in 2000. He was a longtime member of Parkview Baptist Church and was very active in the Senior Adult Ministry. Mr. Moss also served the church in many ways including as a Deacon Emeritus and former Sunday School Director. He enjoyed traveling, doing crossword puzzles and most importantly spending time with his family. Mr. Moss was preceded in death by his parents; and one great-grandson, Alder Garuz.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Charlene Moss, Fort White; three children, Anita Sherrer (Roy), Fort White, Chuck Moss (Dona), Gainesville and Terry Brewer (Del), Fort White; one sister, Sue Miller, Metropolis, IL; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service with military honors will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 1:30 PM at Parkview Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Tatem officiating. A time of visitation will be prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
