Melvin Earnest Mock, 83 of Fort White, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at the Lake City Medical Center. He was born in Miami, Florida and was raised in Fort White. Mr. Mock graduated in 1955 from Fort White High School and served 4 years of active duty in the Navy, followed by 17 years in the Naval Reserve. He worked as a machinist and retired with 22 years with General Electric. Mr. Mock was currently attending the First Baptist Church of High Springs. He also served in the Lake City Camp of the Gideons International, he was an Ordained Deacon and he loved the Lord with all his heart. Mr. Mock enjoyed traveling, gardening, building black powder guns and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Beatrice Feagle Counce.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary S. Mock, Fort White; three children, Ernie Mock (Mary “Sissy”), Fort White, Drew Mock (Sharon), Fort White and Kathi LaCorte (James), Durham, NC; his sister, Helen Cason, Fort White; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Forsgren (L.J.), Lake Butler, Kelli Adkins, Lake City, Chelsea Dochterman (Joey), Branford, Heather Jewell (Bruce), Lake City, Erin Boyd (Shaun), Fort White, Caitlyn Doctor, Stephen LaCorte and Chloe LaCorte all of Durham, NC; 7 great-grandchildren, Lucas and Liam Forsgren, Malachi Davis, Lizzy Jewell and Nate, Evie and Charlotte Boyd.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of High Springs with Pastor Greg Waltermire officiating. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, for those attending the services, CDC guidelines must be followed. Mr. Mock will be interred at a later date at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International in memory of Mr. Mock.
