Our Mom, Mary Virginia Ives McRae, 90, of Lake City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center. She was born in Lake City to the late Harry J. and Nellie Grey Skipper. After her father passed from a tractor accident when she was 2 years old, she was later adopted by her stepdad Norman Ives. Ginny graduated from Columbia High School in 1951 and then furthered her education by going to Indiana University Medical Center, then Riverside Hospital Training Hospital for Nurses, and finished her residency at Chattahoochee in 1954 graduating with a bachelors degree in nursing. She met the love of her life Dr. Barney E. McRae, Jr. and they were married for 67 years before he passed in 2022. Ginny was a wife, mother, grandmother and a great friend to many and a great cook. She enjoyed fishing and spending time at her second home at Suwannee and volunteered for numerous charities and served on numerous committees at her church. Ginny was an auxiliary volunteer for Lake Shore Hospital for several years and spent many hours shuffling her boys to football and baseball practices and games. She will definitely be remembered by her family and friends.
