Our Mom, Mary Virginia Ives McRae, 90, of Lake City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center. She was born in Lake City to the late Harry J. and Nellie Grey Skipper. After her father passed from a tractor accident when she was 2 years old, she was later adopted by her stepdad Norman Ives. Ginny graduated from Columbia High School in 1951 and then furthered her education by going to Indiana University Medical Center, then Riverside Hospital Training Hospital for Nurses, and finished her residency at Chattahoochee in 1954 graduating with a bachelors degree in nursing. She met the love of her life Dr. Barney E. McRae, Jr. and they were married for 67 years before he passed in 2022. Ginny was a wife, mother, grandmother and a great friend to many and a great cook. She enjoyed fishing and spending time at her second home at Suwannee and volunteered for numerous charities and served on numerous committees at her church. Ginny was an auxiliary volunteer for Lake Shore Hospital for several years and spent many hours shuffling her boys to football and baseball practices and games. She will definitely be remembered by her family and friends.
Mrs. McRae is survived by her sons, Skip McRae (Tonja Vandzant), Norman Ives McRae (Wanda), Chris McRae (Cindy), and Mike McRae (Stacy Whiteside); seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. McRae will be held at First Methodist Church in Lake City on Saturday August 5, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Aaron Ankeny officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved Barney in a private family ceremony. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center, 6037 West US HWY 90, Lake City, FL 32055.
