Mary Ellen McLendon, 78, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday evening, October 15th 2020 at the Haven-Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center after an extended illness. She was born in Miami, FL on December 6, 1941 to the late Raymond and Thelma Mae Sensiba McLendon. She has made Lake City her home since 1988, coming here from the Miami area. Shebegan her nursing career in the 1960s. She retired as an ARNP, with over thirty years with the Veterans Administration. She was also one of the founding members and past president of the formerly named American Association of Spinal Injury Nurses. She spent the later part of her career working with veterans with PTSD and other mental disorders.. She was also heavily involved with different research in other medical area(s) during her time with the VA as well. She was of the Jewish faith.
She is survived by her son, Ali Perbtani (Tracie) of Lake City; daughter, Anisa Perbtani of Gainesville; former daughter-in-law, Shuandra Perbtani of Live Oak. Four grandchildren, Elise Alfano (Christian), Allana Perbtani, Makayla Perbtani and Aaliyah Perbtani along with one great-grandchild, Billy Jenkins, III also survives.
A graveside service for Mrs. McLendon will be conducted on Monday, October 16, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. in the Skipper Cemetery in Tallahassee.
