Obituary

MARY EMMA WALKER ELLINWOOD

February 14, 1941 – September 2, 2021

Mary Emma Walker Ellinwood, age 80, passed away September 2, 2021, at her home with family by her side. A life-long resident of Lake City, Florida, Mrs. Ellinwood was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1959, and is remembered for her great wit and humor amongst her classmates. She married the love of her life, David, December 31, 1961, and became a homemaker until she began her career with the Lake City, Columbia County Chamber of Commerce in 1975. She was the liaison between the Chamber and the public for 26 years until her retirement in 2001. She served as the administrative secretary to the executive director and board of directors, serving under many great leaders over the years. She was involved in planning large community events sponsored by the Chamber, including the Olustee Festival, and the Ben Hogan Classic PGA Golf Tournament, as well as many other events.  She would often stay in

the background and let others enjoy the activities which she had planned, rather than taking credit for the successful events. She was very gracious, loved her community and made many lifelong friendships during her career. Her favorite hobby was cross-stitching. She shared many of her beautiful designs and sampler pieces with family and friends over the years. She was very artistic and had excellent penmanship, her specialty was calligraphy. She loved spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren. She was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed college football and always cheered for her favorite Georgia Bulldogs. Mrs. Ellinwood was a faithful member of Hopeful Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, David A. Ellinwood; precious mother, Gussie Mills Walker; brothers, Bill Walker and Jack Walker; sister-in-law, Rita Turner Walker; niece, Veronica Walker; nephews, Mike Logan, and Raymond Logan.
