Obituary

Mrs. Marjorie Lee Layton, known to all as “Penny”, 84, of Lake City died on January 4, 2022 at the Lake City Medical Center. She was born on April 26, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI to the late John and Polly Pound. She was raised in Bloomfield Hills, MI and graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, MN. She had been a resident of Lake City since 1984 where she served for 30 years as a cataloger and librarian for the Columbia County Public Library, was an avid reader and loved classical music. Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence K. Layton and a son, David Layton.

 

Mrs. Layton is survived by four sons: Mark, Michael, Steven, and Lee Layton; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Memorial services for Mrs. Layton will be conducted on Saturday, Jan 29, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Columbia County Public Library, 308 NW Columbia Ave. Lake City, FL 32055.
