Larry R. Boone, 70, of Lake City, passed away on Sunday evening, May 9, 2021 at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a sudden illness. He was born in Carthage, Illinois on March 12, 1951 to the late Russell and Margaret Hockersmith Boone. He was a United States Navy Veteran and worked foy many years as a Physician’s Assistant with the VA Medical center in Lake City, retiring in 2008. Larry was an easy-going person and was always the life of the party. He graduated from the University of Florida and was a staunch supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Florida Gators. He also coached baseball and soccer here in Lake City. He was known as a soccer pioneer in the area. He also loved to play golf, travel and boat with family in his spare time. Larry was very much a family man. He and his wife never missed a ballgame for their sons nor for their grandchildren. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart of 55 years, Lana Boone of Lake City; sons, Eric Boone (Melissa) of Lake City and Ryan Boone (Bettina) of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Jacob, Emma, Owen, Ayden, Cooper and Laney; siblings, Jon Boone (Rhonda) of Leesburg, Bev Christofferson of Iowa, Bob Boone (Susan) of California/Arizona, Richard Boone (Janet) of Iowa, Allan Boone (Deena) of Arizona and Lori Wyse (Jerome) of Arizona. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends also survive.
A memorial service for Mr. Boone will be conducted on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 4:30 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM (one hour prior to the service) at the funeral home. No ties or coats are necessary; the family asks that everyone dress casual as Larry would.
