Kathleen Fay Lyons

On Tuesday, May 16, 2023 Kathleen Fay (Owens) Lyons loving mother and grandmother, passed away at age 75.

Kathy was born on December 5, 1947 in Baldwin, Wisconsin to Bruce and Fern (Harrison) Owens. She made her appearance into the world at only 26 weeks gestation weighing 2lbs 3oz.  Her tenacity was evident from the beginning and she survived an extremely premature birth despite the doctor’s predictions.  She graduated from Hudson High School in 1966. She enlisted in the United State Air Force in 1969, working as an Administration Specialist stationed at Andrew’s Air Force Base, Maryland.  She chose to be discharged from the Air Force and forego her dream orders to be stationed in Japan  and instead married Samuel J. “Jim” Lyons Jr., a widower with three young girls, on March 4th, 1971.  Jim and Kathy added another daughter to the family and Kathy lived the life of a military wife raising their four girls.

While stationed in Grand Forks, North Dakota, Kathy attended the University of North Dakota and received her bachelors degree in business administration in 1980. She worked in the Chemistry department at UND until Jim retired and the family moved to Florida where she worked as an executive administrator and office manager for a government contractor until her retirement.

Kathy had a love for her pets and had many dogs and cats over the years. She loved plants, gardening, and burning any stick she could find in the yard.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Bruce Owens, her mother, Fern, and her sister, Jennie Spencer.

Kathy is survived by her four children, Lisa Lyons, Shelly (Tom) Hill, Stacey (Darin) Koch, Jennie Lyons, two special nieces (more like daughters), Dawn (John) Spencer-Marks and Theresa Spencer, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and her 2 cats, George & Biscuit.
