Joyce Nettles Spurlock

Joyce Nettles Spurlock, 77, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 27, 2023. She was born in Lake City on December 20, 1945 to the late Steven Rich Nettles and Frances Catherine Wheatley Nettles. She has made Lake City her home for most of her life; and she worked for the Columbia County School District from 1976-2008 as a Paraprofessional in the Student Activities area. She also worked for the Montgomery Baptist Hospital as well as in the Comptroller’s Office with Florida State University. During her High School years, she enjoyed working in the Library. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, spending time with her family, talking on the telephone and gardening. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, and loved the Lord and her church family dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Pete M. Spurlock, Sr.; and her brothers & sisters, Steve Nettles, Stanley Nettles, Patricia Kennedy and Catherine Peavey.

She is survived by her sons, Pete Spurlock, Jr. (Melissa) of Lake City and Mike Spurlock (Kim) of Glen St. Mary; and her daughters, Michelle McCoy (Leon) of Hernando and Christy Weaver (Patrick) of Lake City. Twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Spurlock will be conducted on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Norman, officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service at the church.
