Joseph Ambrose Smith

Joseph A. Smith, 67 of Lake City, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville.  He was born in Lake City to the late A.P. Smith and Peggy Kent Smith.  Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Lake City and was currently working for the Lake City Reporter as the Collection Supervisor.  He had previously worked for the Mathis Welding and Plow Company, Red Bud Enterprises and had previously retired from the Lake City Reporter as the Circulation Night Manager.  Mr. Smith was a longtime member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, building furniture and spending time with his family and friends.  Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joseph A. “Buba” Smith, Jr. in 2013. 

Survivors include his two daughters, Connie Tanico (Michael), Hudson, FL and Leslie Smith, Lake City; one brother, James Smith (Darlene), Lake City; his companion, Patricia Teale and her children, Lake City; 13 grandchildren, Austin DeRosa, Rebecca Magee, Dalton Magee, Joseph Smith, III and Jordan Smith, niece and nephew, Terri Phillips (Bobby) and Derek Smith (Jennifer), Lake City.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel.  Interment will follow at Wellborn Cemetery in Wellborn.  Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
