John Edgar Willis

John Edgar Willis, 48 of Live Oak, Florida, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 after battling cancer.  He was born February 19, 19975 in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Jerry G. Willis and Jackie McClanahan both of Flatwoods, Kentucky.  He worked at Bonnie Plants out of Lake City, Florida as a salesman for the past few years and he also owned Willis Transmission and Auto Shop out of Live Oak for many years.  He also coached the Suwannee Middle School wrestling team where he helped coach a lot of young boys that still look up to him today for helping them become great young men. 

His hobbies were coon hunting and setting on his conner at the river or on his river bank enjoying time with family and friends and watching football with his son.  He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry G. Willis and mother, Jackie McClanahan of Flatwoods, Kentucky; paternal grandparents, P.E. and Elsie Witten Willis of Flatwoods, Kentucky; mother in law, Juanita Barfuss of Lake City, Florida; and his step-sister, Janie Iris of Louisville, Kentucky.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Rebeckah “Becky” Willis, Live Oak, FL; two sons, Jerry E. Willis and John N. Willis both of Live Oak, FL; half-brother, Jared Diamond, Ft Guy, W.V.; half-sister, Jessica Willis, Somerset, KY; Step mother, Clara Stevens, Flatwoods, KY; two step brothers, Wes Stevens, North Field, VT and Mike Triplett, Flatwoods, KY; one step sister, Rhonda Deny, Greenup, KY; father in law, Buddy Barfuss, Lake City, FL; two brother in laws, Marty (Edie) and Timmy Barfuss, Lake City, FL; one sister in law, Jennifer Terrell, Lake City, FL; lifelong friend like a brother, Anthony Scott (Ellen), Flatwoods, KY; and a special aunt, he was her “Baby Boy”, Regina Willis, Raceland, KY. Hon leaves behind a multitude of family, family friends and friends that are going to miss him unconditionally.  He will forever be in the hearts of many!  To know him was to love him and if he called you a friend that was special.

Private gathering will be held at a later date with family and close friends.
