John Robert Humphrey, 93, of Lake City, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 13, 2021 with his wife by his side. He was born in Pavo, Georgia on October 6, 1927 to the late Sanders Monroe Humphrey, Sr. and Pearlie May Tyler Humphrey. He was a US Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War and was of the Baptist Faith. He worked as a Supermarket Manager, and retired from Foodland in Lake City. He was also a Lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of America. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years, Helen Humphrey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Shirley Jean Humphrey of Lake City; sons; Dan Humphrey (Jane) of Alabama and Kenneth Humphrey (Dorothy) of Pavo, GA; step-son, Eddie Kurtz of Lake City; grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, Amanda and Caitlin Humphrey; great-grandchild, Avery Grace Humphrey and sister Frances Weeks of Pavo, GA also survive.
A funeral service for Mr. Humphrey will be conducted on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Randy Ogburn officiating. Private family interment services will follow.
