John Howard Obituary

John S. Howard, 100, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday evening, March 21, 2024 at the Bedrock Rehabilitation Center of Lake City. He was born in Dallas, Texas on August 11, 1923 to the late John Howard and Julia Munos Howard. He was a State of Florida general contractor and served his country in the United States Navy - Pacific theater. He resided in Lake City, but was a longtime resident of Live Oak, and there, served for a number of years on the Suwannee County Development Authority. He was also a long time member of the Christ Redeemer Presbyterian Church.  Prior to that, he lived in Orlando, where he owned and operated Electric Construction Company, specializing in high voltage substation assembly. His previous work led him to Dammam, Saudi Arabia through Occidental Chemical Corporation. Earlier, he graduated from the University of Houston. While in Houston, he married his first wife, Billie D. Edwards. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Wichita Falls, Texas. He held a real estate broker and mortgage broker license. He was a small aircraft pilot and an avid boater. He enjoyed traveling and working on building projects. He is preceded in death by his 2nd wife of 53 years, Margaret Watterson Howard of Live Oak.

He is survived by his sons, John S. Howard, Jr. (Nancy) of Corpus Christi, TX and Chris Howard of Lake City; and his daughter, JoAnn Howard-Heath (Arthur) of Lake City. He is survived by his first wife; Billie D. Endersbee, along with eight grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial graveside service for Mr. Howard will be conducted on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. in the Pinegrove Methodist Church Cemetery in Live Oak with Pastor Randy Wilding, officiating. Interment will follow. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME.
