In loving memory, Jesse Lee Murrill peacefully passed away at home on February 4, 2024, surrounded by his cherished family. Born in Tampa, FL, on June 12, 1952, to Daniel Wallace Murrill and Betty Jo Waldron, he married Cynthia Douberley Murrill on June 2, 1984, sealing their eternal bond in the Salt Lake Temple on August 10, 1993. Jesse, a Northern Michigan University alumnus, earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in mathematics in 1974. His professional journey led him to become an Environmental Professional at Occidental Chemical and Hunter Environmental.
A dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Price Creek Ward, Jesse served in various roles, including Bishop, Elders Quorum Counselor, Executive Secretary to the Stake President, High Councilman, and Orlando Temple service. A distinguished military officer, Jesse graduated in the top 10% of Officer Candidate School (OCS) and served the United States Army, Army Reserve, and Florida National Guard for 27 years. He retired with the rank of LT. Col. in 2012, having completed the Command and General Staff College and receiving the Meritorious Service Medal. Jesse enjoyed many hobbies, including holding a HAM radio license, volunteering at the Osceola gun range, and being an avid sportsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping, farming, and remodeling his cabin on the Santa Fe River. He and Cindy's love for travel, took them extensively through the American West. In addition to his many hobbies, Jesse was known for his forward-thinking, always preparing, and helping others—a legacy that remains a source of inspiration for all who knew him.
Jesse is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia Douberley Murrill, their children Daniel Stephan Murrill (wife Javiera), Sarah Murrill Anderson (husband Kyle), Andrea Murrill Huff (husband DJ), and grandchildren Kiley, Evelyn, Luna, Terra, Dax, and Mia. He is Preceded in death by his parents and brothers Dana Harvey Murrill and Joel Allen Murrill.
A funeral service for Mr. Murrill will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Lake City, FL, on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 2:00 P.M., the family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church. Following the service, there will be a gravesite dedication and military honor service at Ebenezer Cemetery. The family invites all to join them for dinner at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints afterward. In lieu of flowers, honor Jesse's legacy with a compassionate gesture for someone in need and cherish extra moments with your loved ones, as Jesse considered time spent with them his greatest treasure.
