Mr. James Roswell “Roz” Stevens, 82, of Lake City peacefully joined his Maker on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center. Roz was born in Enterprise, Alabama on April 28, 1938 to the late Eloise and J.D. Stevens. He was preceded in death by his sister Latrell (John) Sterling. He is survived by his devoted and caring wife Caroline, brother; Wendell (Judy) Stevens; son, Roswell Davis Stevens; daughter, Dezra (Craig) Marcel; grandsons, Jared (Belinda) Marcel, Corey (Dana) Marcel, Travis (Kirstie) Marcel; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Waylon, Piper, and Abe Marcel; stepdaughter Bonnie Penner; step grandsons, Tyler and Jordan Penner.
Roz was brought up in the Pentecostal Church where his father was a pastor. He began singing at church and soon developed a lovely tenor voice. As a teenager he would sing at area establishments. He later became part of a trio, The Stars, and then a quartet, The Four Mints, playing clubs along the I-10 corridor and singing popular tunes. Roz is a longtime resident of Lake City and worked at Homes of Merit for years where his co-workers were more like family than co-workers. Roz was kind, generous, loving and had a great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed. A special thanks to the caring staff at Solaris and Haven Hospice.
