James Cecil Rine, Jr., 93, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday morning, October 5, 2023 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Captina, West Virginia on April 7, 1930 to the late James Cecil Rine, Sr. and Clarice Ethel Burkhart Rine. He was an Ordinance Corporal in the United States Army and worked as a Chemical Engineer many years and retired from Occidental in 1985. Upon retirement, he worked for a short while with Jamar Associates Consulting Company before completely retiring. He has made Lake City his home since 1979 moving here from Cleveland, Ohio and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lake City. He loved children, and was known for passing out $.50 pieces to everyone and $1.00 coins on your birthday. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, collecting antique things and was a member of the Deep South Engine Club.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Lorin Rine (Colleen) of Topeka, KS and Marvin Neal Rine (Joelie Minchin) of Lake City; daughter, Martha Lorine Rine of Lake City; sister, Faye Howe of West Virginia; grandchildren, Melanie Roberts (Shaun) of Topeka, KS and Sara Elizabeth Clark of Lake City; and his great-grandchildren, Olivia Clark, Kai Clark, Addyson Roberts, Avery Roberts and Porter Roberts also survive.
A visitation for Mr. Rine will be held on Monday evening, October 9, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Bethel Church Cemetery in Piketon, Ohio, immediately following a visitation from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio.
