James Robert Lones, Sr.

James Robert Lones, Sr., 80, of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Dowling Park.

He was born November 20, 1937 in Knoxville, TN., to the late Paul Lones and Clara Flora Lones. Mr. Lones served in the United States Air Force for 28 years and served in the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the Air Force, he started working for the Lake City Community College where he worked in the golf course management program and retired after 20 years. He enjoyed playing golf with his friend Gene Sumner and others, also fishing, going on cruises, traveling, and visiting  to Ashville, NC. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church for 26 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jean Rose Lones. He was a loving and caring husband father and grandfather.

Survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 29 years, Linda Lones, of Lake City, Fl., sons; James Robert Lones, Jr., (Diah) of Jacksonville, Fl., Steven Williamson, of Lake City, Fl., daughter; Patricia Sheehan (Mike) of UT, sister; Freddie Waddell (Chuck), of Neptune Beach, Fl., five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Lones will be conducted at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Tatem officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour (9:00am-10:00am) prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Florida Baptist Children's Homes, 3700 NW 91st St., Suite B-300, Gainesville, FL 32606.
