Mr. James Daniel “Jim” Stevens, 74, of Lake City passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Willowbrook Assisted Living Facility following a lengthy illness. He was the son of the late J.W. and Annie Blanche McColskey Stevens and was a graduate of Columbia High School in 1966 and the University of Florida in 1970. Jim retired from the Florida Department of Corrections after 35 years of service and then worked for 10 years with Suwannee River Economic Council as a case manager and also officiated high school and junior college level sporting events for 30+ years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Alan Stevens and Chuck Howard; aunt, Mary Alice Chalker; and close friend Thomas Fortner.
Jim is survived by his wife, Cynthia Crawford Stevens; sons, Richard Stevens (Karen) of Rockledge, FL, Marcus Stevens (Trudy) of Lake Butler; granddaughters, Alana Stevens and Kylie Stevens (Mason Henson) of Lake Butler, Kara Brown (Mark) of Shaw AFB, SC, and Matthew Jobin of Gainesville; great granddaughters, Addison Johns, Easton and Avery Brown; brother, John Stevens (Donna) of Jacksonville; sisters in law, Libby Crawford of Lake City and Prissy Roberts (Charlie) of Brooker; brother in law Brantley Crawford (Sara) of McAlpin; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Stevens will be conducted on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Hardesty and Rev. Charlie Johnson officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service (2:00-3:00) at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to VITAS Community Association, P.O.
