James Grady Clayton, 91, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, December 23, 2021 after an extended illness. He was born in Naylor, Georgia on May 4, 1930 to the late Holcom Grady Clayton and Vernie Hamilton Clayton. He has been a life-long resident of Lake City and served in the Army National Guard. He started the family business, C & C Janitorial Service, which has been going since 1961. He was also a Forestry Ranger for over fourteen years. He was a member of the Lake City Masonic Lodge # 27, Lake City Shrine Club and was a faithful member of New Beginning Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and cooking chicken pileau. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Rose Marie Clayton; daughter, Irene Alford; adopted son JW Johnson; son in laws Wilbur Regar, Jessie Truluck; granddaughters Bonnie Sue Brett, Barbara Nickie Brett; great grandsons John David Spivey, Dylan Cody Rowe, Daniel Sheppard; brother, Jimmy Clayton and sisters, Jessie May Drawdy, Louise Weeks and Mae Register.
He is survived by his son, Buddy (Cindy) Clayton of Lake City; daughters, Dorothy Regar, Kathy Truluck and Barbara Ann Putnel all of Lake City; adopted daughter Lois Horton (Henry) Lake City: sister, Inez Wallace of Lake City. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, family members and friends also survive.
A funeral service for Mr. Clayton will be conducted on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Terry officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service.
