Jack Thomas Harris, 76, of Lake Butler, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Shands University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville after a sudden illness. He was born in Hahira, Georgia on August 13, 1942 to the late Wiley and Jewel Jones Harris. He was a Heavy Equipment Supervisor in the construction industry for many years, working for the Road Department in Okeechobee County. He later went to work for the Union County Solid Waste Department after moving here in 2006. He was of the Baptist Faith, and in his spare time, loved to tinker on old tractors and trucks and growing roses. He was also knows as the “Fix-It Man”. He is preceded in death by eight siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years; Bobbie J. Cloud Harris of Lake Butler; sons; Michael Harris and Ryan Harris both of Lake Butler; brothers; Jerry Harris (Ruby) of Hahira, GA and David Harris (Cheryl) of Plant City, FL; sister; Mary Elizabeth Harris of Indiana. One grandchild, Katie Slusher of Athens, TN along with many extended family members and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Harris will be conducted on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. in the Old Providence Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Stout officiating. Interment will follow in Hunt Cemetery in Union County. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 A.M. (one hour prior to the services) at the church.
