Howard David Ward, 78, of Lake City, passed away on Monday afternoon, November 9, 2020 at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after an extended illness. He was born in Xenia, Ohio on October 27, 1942 to the late Albert Franklin Ward and Thelma Dorthea Entsminger Ward. He has made Lake City his home for the last 21 years, moving here from Kentucky. He retired as a mechanic from the fertilizer plant and then went to work as a maintenance man for a local apartment complex. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering on things. He was member of the Old Providence Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his son, Ruben “Butch” Abbott; and siblings, Raymond Green, Earl Green, Ernest Green, Martha Moore, Mary Moesteller, Dorothy McCoy, Goldie Pitts and Elizabeth Simons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lola Ward of Lake City; daughters, Denise Abbott of Kentucky, Belinda Clark (Harold) of Lake City; Brenda Ward of Ohio, Patricia Ward of Lake Butler and Lori Ward of Lake City; brother, Orville Green, Jr. (Alice) of Ohio. 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
A private family service for Mr. Ward will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to Mrs. Ward in honor of Mr. Ward, please contact the funeral home if more details are needed. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
