Henry C. “Spanky” Harrell of Lake City, Florida, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at the Haven Hospice Care Center in Lake City after an extended illness. He was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on June 15, 1936. He was preceded in death by his father, W.P. Harrell, mother, Ollie Mae Hayes and son, Anthony D. Harrell.
He was a Christian, baptized in the Methodist church as a young man. Spanky loved going to Hardee’s for breakfast every morning with his buddy’s, T.D. Jenkins, Wayne Keen, Gerald Case and Carol Law. He was most happy riding and working with his tractor around the house with his loyal Golden Retriever “Windy” looking on.
He served four years in the US Navy; worked as a welder for the City of Lake City; and retired from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department in 1997 after serving under multiple Sheriff’s, Harry Spradley, Glenn Bailey, Tom Trammell and Frank Owens.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sharon W. Harrell of Lake City; daughter, Tammy Bowden of Jacksonville; son, Steven “Gator” Harrell (Jamie) of Texas. Two step-sons, Donald E. Creamer, Jr. (Jennifer) and Gregory S. Creamer (Colleen). Fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services for Mr. Harrell will be conducted on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 2:30 P.M. in the Keen Cemetery (Hwy 441 North, turn right on Christie Street, follow down over metal bridge and turn right on Forest Road 233, cemetery is 2 ½ miles down on right hand side) with Rev. Zack Douglas officiating. Visitation with the family with the family will be from 1:30-2:30 P.M. (one hour prior to the services) at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City or to the Pregnancy Care Center in Lake City, 130 NW Hilton Ave, Lake City, FL, 32055.
