Haleem Jacob Moussa

Haleem Moussa, a resident of Lake City, passed away on Saturday night, October 21, 2023, at the age of 90. Born on a small farm in northern Lebanon on March 18, 1933, he grew up working with the land and was an industrious and resourceful person. Through hard work and discipline, he put himself through nursing school in Lebanon, and came to the United States in 1962 to finish his education in the medical field. He then worked as a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) for 44 years. He worked all around the world in various hospitals, and eventually found a place to call home in 1993 when he moved to Lake City to work at the VA Hospital. He loved his work and continued working until the age of 80.

During his retirement, he continued his hobbies of gardening, winemaking, and cheesemaking. People jokingly said he brought his Lebanese farm to Florida, as he had a garden full of grapes, olives, figs, pears, plums, persimmons, pomegranates, and so much more. He enjoyed making wine from the grapes he grew, and more so, he enjoyed sharing a glass with friends and family.

He was a gregarious and generous man, who made a stranger feel like family, and would always ensure one felt at home. He opened a path to friends and family alike in their journey in life, providing education and help to anyone and everyone. He was a father, a brother, and a friend in every sense of the word. An honest, faithful, and helpful person, who gave with pleasure and love.

He is survived by his wife Omaya Moussa, and four children: Jason Jack Moussa, Joyce Sana Moussa, Nelly Maria Infante, Joseph Haleem Moussa; and six grandchildren: Sofia Infante, Daniel Infante, Andres Infante, Alexander Moussa, Victoria Moussa, and Jason Liam Moussa.

A funeral service for Mr. Moussa will be conducted on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City with Rev. Kenneth Goodrich officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service at the church.
