Obituary
George Brooks Etheridge, Jr., 71, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on February 26, 1951 to the late George and Betty Etheridge. Brooks was a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1969 where he excelled in all sports. He received a football scholarship to Clemson University where he played briefly before returning home to the family business.
Founded by his parents, he and his sister, Becky, successfully managed Etheridge Furniture, taking care of many clients in and around Columbia County before retiring in 2021 and closing the store after 57 years.
Brooks is survived by his only daughter, Della Katharine Crone (Andrew) of Greensboro, NC; his two grandchildren, Cason and Parker Crone. He is also survived by his sisters, Becky Todd (Mike), Tere Hoechst (David), and Nancy Westberry (Doug) and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Columbia Youth Football Association at 5813 NW Lake Jeffery Road, Lake City, FL 32055.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Dr. Billy Young officiating.
