Gayle Dinkins Cannon, 86 of Wellborn, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the oldest of 3 children, to the late Oscar Lewis Dinkins and Wilma L. Stephens Dinkins. Mrs. Cannon had made Lake City area her home since the late 1960’s having previously lived in St. Augustine and Sanford. She worked for many years as a social worker with the Department of Children and Family Services (formerly HRS) in Lake City. Mrs. Cannon was an avid Florida Gator fan and she enjoyed fishing, painting and making stained glass. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Stephen Dinkins and John K. Dinkins.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, William B. “Bill” Cannon, Wellborn; two children, Terri Osborne Millikin (Mike) and Stephen Milner Osborne (Debbie) all of Lake City; four grandchildren, Katie Millikin Glover (Philip), Lake City, Mary Beth Millikin Everett (Chad), Lake City, Greg Speakman, Lake City and Brittany Speakman Wright (John), Canton, GA; and 11 great-grandchildren, Joel, Eli and Gracie Glover, Emory, Carter and Lyla Kate Everett, Brynn, Teagan and Lily Jane Speakman, Hayes and Ellis Wright.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Dr. Mike Tatem, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the funeral home.
