Galena “Gay” Belle Dicks Roberts, 90, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 after a brief illness. She was born in Lake City on June 24, 1933 to the late Drew Dicks and Elsie Williams Dicks. She accepted the Lord as her savior at the age of 10 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church here in Lake City and was baptized in the creek near the church. She was a 1951 graduate of Columbia High School with honors and also earned her business degree from college in Jacksonville in 15 moths time following. In 1964, she went to work for the Federal Government in Lake City with the Department of Agriculture, in the ASCS office, where she retired from after 31 years of service. She was a praying woman, who enjoyed being at her church, the Lake City Church of God, and serving with their food ministry. She loved her family dearly as well as studying her bible, working in the garden and bible word search puzzles. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Elton W. “Bob” Roberts; brother, Ned Dicks; infant sister, Elsie Dicks; and her sisters, Louise Crews, Lola Mae Coleman, Tercie Witt and Quinn Boone.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Kimi D. Roberts of Lake City; grandchildren, Tammy Danielle Roberts of Lake City, Jarrad Christian Roberts of Gainesville, Hannah Christine Zimmermann of Jacksonville and Iris Elaine Roberts of Lake City; great-grandchildren, Abbiegail Danielle Drawdy of Lake City, Maxwell Tyler Zimmermann and Charlotte Louise Zimmermann both of Jacksonville. Brothers, Wayne Dicks of Lake City, Roosevelt Dicks of Lake City and Archie Dicks (Valeria); along with many nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service for Mrs. Roberts will be conducted on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. in the Lake City Church of God with Pastor Carl Thomas officiating; assisted by Pastor Dale Dansby and Pastor Carroll Lee. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Monday evening, October 16, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
