G. Marvin Mosby, Jr. Obituary

Mr. G. Marvin Mosby, Jr., 83 of Lake City, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at The Rehabilitation Center of Lake City after a short illness.  He was born in Hope, Arkansas to the late Gilbert Marvin Mosby, Sr. and Mildred Rose Young Mosby.  Mr. Mosby had made his home in Lake City since 1979 and had previously lived in Tallahassee and also Alton, Illinois.  He worked for 22 years with Occidental, now PCS, in White Springs as a Lab Analyst having retired in 2001.  Mr. Mosby was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City for 25 years and was currently an active member of Parkview Baptist Church for the last 10 years.  He served the local churches as a Deacon, he sang in the choir, was an RA leader and co-coordinated Operation Christmas Child.  Mr. Mosby was part of many mission trips with the church and he loved getting to go to the Holy Lands where Jesus walked.  He also coached the Special Olympics for many years and volunteered with the Columbia County School District and the Christian Service Center.  Mr. Mosby enjoyed watching sports, especially the Florida State Seminoles and the St. Louis Cardinals.  He was a loving husband and Father who put God and family first.  He lived out his beliefs everyday as he served his family, church and community. 

 

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bonita L. Mosby, Lake City; one daughter, Christine “Christy” S. Robertson (Matthew), Lake City; one son, Michael P. Mosby (Tia), Gainesville; one brother, Herbert Earl Mosby (Mary Kay), Alton, Illinois; and 3 grandchildren, Rebecca Mosby, Joshua Robertson and Joanna Robertson.

 

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Parkview Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Tatem, pastor officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be breifly prior to the service on Wednesday from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM in the Welcome Center at Parkview Baptist Church.  A livestream of the services will be available by visiting Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home via Facebook.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Operation Christmas Child, Samaritans Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-9956 or to the Christian Service Center at 421 NW Washington St., Lake City, FL 32055.
