Foy Alford Stiles

Our Mom, Foy Alford Stiles, 100, of Lake City passed away peacefully on Friday, August 4, 2023, at The Canopy at Harper Lake ALF. She was born in northern Columbia County to the late Christopher Columbus Alford and Mary Alma Melton on July 17, 1923.

She was born, raised, and worked on the family farm alongside her parents and siblings until she moved to town and took a job at the Lake City Bus Station in 1944. In the summer of 1945 she met our Daddy, Gilbert E. Stiles, when he was returning to Camp Blanding from being on leave while in the Army.  They married on August 25, 1945, and were married for 63 years until his passing in 2008. She truly was the love of his life. Together they raised seven children.

Having a gift for growing things, she enjoyed tending to her plants and mowing the yard up into her 80’s. She loved raising chickens, ducks and had an affinity for all small animals. She had various hobbies and always stayed busy. In addition, she and Daddy spent the majority of their marriage fishing on the upper Suwannee River  and playing cards together.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Willie, John, Bill, and Butler Alford and her only sister, Ruth Woods as well as a son, Rickey E. Stiles, Sr. (2006) and two great great-grandchildren, Kyler and AnaGrace Miller (2021).

She is survived by her children; Judy Ann Stiles, Ronald Daniel Stiles (Kim), Pamela Gail Hagerman, Laurel Katrina Lutze (Ron), Harry Russell Stiles and Penny Stiles Faris (Harvey). She is also survived by Seventeen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren & fourteen great great-grandchildren.

At Mama’s request, a private family service was held. She was laid to rest next to Daddy at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Lake City, FL.
