Ernest Wetzel “Ernie” Johnson, Jr., age 73, passed away the 4th of May 2021 peacefully in his sleep. He was born the 26th of August 1947 in Lake City, Florida to the late Ernest Wetzel Johnson Sr. and Mau-Wiece Walling Johnson. Ernie enlisted in the Army in 1976 and his service took him around the world, making his final stop Fort Sill, Oklahoma before retiring from the Army in 1996. Following retirement, Ernie returned back to Florida before settling down in Douglasville, Georgia where he spent the last 13 years lighting up the floors of Macy’s. He is preceded in death by parents Ernest W. and Betty Lou Johnson Sr. and O’Dell and Mau-Wiece Hightower.
Survivors include his two daughters Kim Stephens (Gregg), Lake City, FL and Angela Crouse (Michael) Greenup, IL; five grandchildren Jake and Garrett Stephens, Addison Johnson and Morgan and Cameron Crouse; three sisters Conna Frier (Avon), Lakeland, FL LaDonna Baker (Lance) and Marilyn Clark both of Live Oak, FL. Ernie was affectionately known as “Uncle Bud” to many nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation for Ernie will be conducted on Thursday, May 20th from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Lake City, FL. Mr. Johnsons final resting place will be the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Funeral services will be Friday, May 21st at 11:00 A.M. at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
There will also be a memorial service for Ernie in Villa Rica, GA on Saturday May 15th at 11:00 at First Baptist Church Villa Rica for those who are not able to attend the services in Florida.
