Edward Laverne Newman, 78 of Lake City, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the Lake City Medical Center. Mr. Newman was born and raised in Jacksonville to the late Ernest Amos Newman and Martha Adetha Kearnes Newman. Mr. Newman had made his home in Branford for many years before moving to Lake City about a year ago. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local #177 in Jacksonville and worked for many years in his Hydroponic Greenhouses following his retirement. Mr. Newman was a member of San Juan Catholic Mission in Branford. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger, and he always had a joke to tell.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sandy Newman, Lake City; his daughter, Stephanie Newman, Branford; two brothers, Pat and Mike Newman, both of Jacksonville; three sisters, Becky Bell, Ernestine Schurko (Herbert) and Elaine Berini (Bill), all of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Sierah Goodin and Skyler Goodin, both of Bell, and Connor Kirby and Parker Kirby, both of Branford; five great-grandchildren, Paisley Pope, Tucker Hobby, Mavis Hobby, Luke Ordway and Levi Ordway all of Bell; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Newman will be conducted on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 12:00 Noon in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Marek Dzien of San Juan Catholic Mission officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.
